Sammi Cheng's Latest Single "Water Of Love"
This is the latest MV from the title theme of Macau Water Dance performance.
La La's Limit - The Sophomore Album

With her debut, she gains up the Best Newcomer of Golden Melody Awards 2010, and produce 2 hit singles. I really did wonder, how would she live up to fame with her sophomore effort.
Limit. The title of the her upcoming 2nd album. Suggested she had push up to her limits? According to her website explanation;-
LIMIT - It's a simple word that doesn't overcome the peak, but instead a plain, simple troubles thoughts that also affect you and me daily. If we changes the LIMIT's meaning, honestly facing our shortfall and overcome it.
This album had team up a numbers of celebrity musicians to boost her above her limits. I hopes this little girl could surprise me and also surprise the whole world. I am looking forward for her to bring new changes and achieving further. Continuing her debut's flow of style to bring us the biggest wonders of music.

Macy Gray finally found her grace - SELLOUT

About a decade ago, Gray emerged with her hit song, I TRY. Winning the BRITS awards, as the best newcomer. She even was the highlight artist of the year, and gone feature with B.E.P., Fat Boy Slim, etc...
However, after a couples album she still unable to match the popularity of her debut. Her previous release "BIG" is good, but had not won her any commercial success. I had always knew she will make a comeback, but not very least a very good album.
Sellout is one hell of a good pile of tracks. First single "Beauty In The World" had show not much interest from the public, but her team had shown a big effort to push this track to a higher level by featuring onto Ugly Betty and 2010's film KILLERS. This is a song that you can replay it repeatedly on and on with a light, happy praising women in the world. Very different form my usual favorites...heartbreaking ballads.
Follow up singles, "Lately"(UK) and "Kiss It" ft Velvet Revolver(US), had sent to service to different region. I love both of it and it really suits respective region. Both songs do not touch big issues but more commonly like most of pop songs. I think this is right as this is what the pop world need.
Sit back and relax with the whole album, and you will find this is what music Macy Gray do and what we want to listen as well. Not a regular pop/R&B album or something she trying to strike, but a comfortable easy listening tracks after tracks...by means of comfortable listening is not jazz/soul but dance tracks, R&B, soul stuffs. I call this the Macy Gray thing.

四陈星芒- Malaysia's 4C
As for my observations, under the Malaysia chinese-medium entertainment business, there are 4 shining new stars which all begins with the surname of CHEN. They are all in the stage of become the next big thing and having huge potential to be an international stars of chinese language market. They are currently my favourites artist of the moment and they are Andrew Chen Si An(陈世安), JiaKai Chen Jia Kai(陈家凯), Quincy, Chen Ren Feng(陈仁丰) and Vchuan,Chen Wei Chuan(陈威全).
All four of them had gone or going through the second and most painful process of an artist development, advancing and growth. All four CHENs had released their debut album and well received within the Malaysia region. All fours also were well reputated newcomers in the 2000 to 2009 era in Malaysia chinese region and was catching some eyes of overseas producers to sign abroad. Timing, and luck had hold them back. Yes, none of them had the luck like Nicholas Teo had back in his early days.
Andrew Chen is one of the quickest among four to pick up from the low side. The winner of the World Chinese Singing Competition held in HK, TVB, landed in the spotlights with high expectation to achieve what Nicholas once achieved. However, due to negative exposure and mismanage by his first record company leads him to a huge downfall. After the expiring of the unfruitful record contract that held him back, he starts to spread his wings with the new EP "Stardom 天后" and setting trends in local music trends. In securing the image step, he is quickly focusing himself into a new recording material to get him ready for his career launch to international market.
My recommendstions would be following a steps of formula sets by Nicholas's career. Venturing into Singapore, Hongkong and China then Taiwan. With the help of ASTRO network of TV stations, he can easily gain enough exposure for these markets. With his hosting ability previously he can gain more exposure by doing music related programme as with JiaYu tv station or something related. This guy is already start sailing.
As for Jiakai, 9 years ago he was the most promising male artist by just listening to his EP with just 5 tracks (2 of them are demos), I quickly hook on this artist. But by the end of the day he is not seen anywhere, with just keeping hearing his recents news from INTI. After years of hiatus, people still ask, where had this JiaKai gone? No one remembers his look, but strong memories of his voice from the korean verse of FLIGHT 943(飞行943) still huanting me. His guest appearance in Penny's song a few years back got me excited which quickly turns my hope of his return to dust. No other artist caught my curiousity that much. Rumours about his girlfriend from preventing his return to music scene fuel up my curiousity. Until last December 2009, Jiakai is officially back to music.
His career relaunch had compare to many establish power singer like Jam Hsiao, but he is one of a kind and he is a natural born vocalist. I always though he could achieve more than any other newcomers from the past 10 years. He is a gem and whereever he goes sure success comes. The holdback of his success goes to his ability to communicate with the media and presenting himself as a superstar. To me, he still looks like a boy next door. A good platform of positioning him in the market is crucial. There isn't any difficulity to launch such a talent any where. Infact he can launch his new album direct at Taiwan, wouldn't be a problem. (Comparing to Wu Jia Fei. he's a bit harder).

Vchuan, is my most favourite among all four. While Jiakai is the most talented vocalist of all four, Vchuan is the given the gift of song writing skills(Both of them also studying in the same college, INTI). From his earliest times of "明天爱谁(Who I Love tomorrow)“, that sparks up a fight between Joey Yung and Jiang MeiChi for wanting to sing the same song, to recent success of numberous hit song written to ShenMu Yu Tong, Jerry Yan, Ding Dang and Rachel Liang. (Most are chosen as main singles from respective album.) He was a promising new artist at the times he released his debut in Malaysia. He had his dark times when his record company that offers him to Taiwan, closed down. Within 2 years of dark times, he had successfully establish himself as hot song writing in Taiwan.
Now with recent news from him that he had been offer a chance to release an album, I wish him best of lucks. With a good make over on the image and his polished new songs, he will definitely find himself a spot in the Taiwan music business. He is now starting out to flame up his reputation with the appearance of SUPERSTAR singing competition. I could see a good future ahead of him.
Quincy Chen on the other hand seems the less lucky ones. His image appears to be too common and only till the time I listen his debut album, (which also did release in Taiwan) I felt he is commercial enough to be an idol. He is sees as like Malaysia version of TANK(Taiwan artist), able to writes his own songs and sing well the same time. However, with lack of his information, (I presume mismanage from his record company) he seems had not make a good impact on the local audience back 3 years ago. Even his venture to Taiwan and China turns out unsuccessful.

From recent news, that he had signed a Taiwan company and under goes neccessary trainings, I am sure he is a good gem inside. By polish some of his writing skills, a star-culture-lesson, and adding a little exposure on the tv/radio hosting, I am sure he could easily stand out from the rest. With a whole new image, and constant exposure its not hard to bring him up.
An artist development usually takes some times. The four Cs I introduce here will be huge with some luck with them, so I will just wait the next 2 years to see them expand out of Malaysia music scene.

黃小琥-簡單/不簡單 Tiger Huang - Simple/Not Simple
Seems like recently I can predict the top 10 album of the year easily, release since last year 2009, this 1st new album for the past 8 years of Tiger Huang definitely becomes my favourite top 10 for the year 2010. It's already good on the first listen and it grew more on you as you listen it more.
She's a powerful pub live diva as we all knows, and according the standard of this album, effortless, a strong contender for the upcoming Golden Melody Award. From the first single, "Not That Simple"- witty lyrics, true and straight forward. Thats what I call truth hurts. Catchy and powerful ballad, immediately link her to Barbra Streisand of the East(of coz forget Tsai Chin). It's been very difficult for elder age songtress to release something that can hit into the mainstream market. Tiger Huang definitely owes the success to the production team and her effort from the last year's increasing of fame from live tour 08/09 and her constant "mentor" image exposure from Xing Guang talent competition.
Upon the first round of listen, a track call "Partner", easily standout from the rest. This second single quickly could match up the fame of " Not That Easy". These songs really very hard to carry. Those lyrics really needed someone who went through some experience in life to really get the meaning of the songs. Its not easy for a 40-50 y.o. to sing love song and love songs are usually the easiest topic to sing around. This album had target right in Tiger's age. Totally love it.

Corrine's A Smoothie With Flavours

Corrine Bailey Rae shot to fames back in 2006 with her self titled debute and swept away many of the awards in UK, including MOBO's Best Newcomer and Female Award. Hit singles like "Put Your Records On" and "Like A Star" were worldwide hits and used in many commercials and soundtrack around the world. Most of all, its my favourite Sunday Jazz/Soul soundtrack up till now. Its like a plain milk smoothie, a mixture of light, acoustic, jazz, soul, and pop-orientated sound.
After a hiatus(death of her husband) of almost 3 years from the spolights, she is finally back as a more prominent and independent song writer. Undeniably, with such tragic incident, it manage more or less contribute some inspirations to her follow up sophomore album, The Sea. I hadn't take an insight to her new album as its only release at end of Jan 2010. Judging from the lead single "I'd Do It All Again", I would say its a good choice. According to her, its a ballad inspire by an arguement she had with her husband, and the song is seems a connection from her debut album sound to this new one. I found it still remains the laziness(softness) from her vocal and this time a little more of anger but comforting. Could be compare to the recent heartbreaking ballad fever out there, but she manage to retain her own style. That you won't find it many in Chinese Pop scene.
The sophomore album, "The Sea" is said by critics to be good, and a good departure of her previous sound. I guess it manage maintain the old fans of her previous album.
I'd Do It All Again (Lyric)
Ooh, youre searching for something I know, wont make you happy
Ooh, youre thirsting for something I know, wont make you happy
Ooh, you did it all again, you broke another skin
Its hard to believe this time, hard to believe
That my heart, my hearts an open door... See More
You got all you came for, baby
So weary, someone to love is bigger than your prides worth
Is bigger than the pain you got for it hurts
And out runs all of the sadness
Its terrifying, life, through the darkness
And Id do it all again, Id do it all again
Id do it all again, Id do it all again
You try sometimes but it wont stop
You got my heart and my heads lost, ooh yeah
Ive been burning down these candles for love, for love
So weary, someone to love is bigger than your pride
Ooh, someone to love, mm, someone to love
Someone to love
Ooh, youre searching for something I know, wont make you happy
Ooh

黄小琥- 没那么简单

This is one of my current favourite song and the lyrics are real good. Mid-life crisis? Trust in yourself.

Favourite 10 albums of 2009
When I look at the album list of 2009, I am very surprise that I only listens to female artists, specially divas. Well, someone once told me, gals are attracted to listen to male singer and guys the other way round. However, mostly they are in my FAV10 is becoz they are my favourite singer as well. I bias. Don't blame me. hehehe.......

2)Lady Gaga-The Fame(2008)/The Fame Monster(2009)

1)Mariah Carey-The Memoirs Of an Imperfect Angel (2009)
Well, she definitely always on my FAV10 every year since DAYDREAM. I am thrilled that when Mimi mention she went back to basic is back to DAYDREAM/BUTTERFLY era, instead Tommy Mottala era (Not much a fans of this era). This Memoirs is part one of the Angel era, and the choice of songs seems less attractive than previous E=MC2, but yet the ballads are stunning. I didn't feel she is going back to the roots instead she to stunning out another side and level of her soft, slow side of musical style.
2)Lady Gaga-The Fame(2008)/The Fame Monster(2009) All I wanted for an artist package is a fresh and exciting image, thrilling MVs, and lots of great singles from the same album. Gaga had done it right. From "Let's Dance", "Pokerface" to the 5th no.1 "Bad Romance", The Fame had spun out at least 6 singles, with the 7th on the way "Telephone" ft Beyonce. She got all the elements in the package. 2009 definitely a Gaga year.
(The Fame Monster is a stand alone project, however also available as The Fame Monster/The Fame package double disc. I called it the Fame era as both musically identical, with the Monster's track a more mature sound than previous.)
3)Beyonce- I Am... Sasha Fierce(2008)
In 2009, I am... album had release another 6 singles (Halo, Diva, Ego, Broken-Hearted Girl, Sweet Dreams, Video Phone), a remix album (Beyond and Above..Remix), Platinum edition (with all bonus tracks and MV DVD). This album had done so well in 2009, how couldn't it become one of the FAV10 again for 2 years in a row? I just love it so much, and this album achieve the most singles to enter Billboard Hot 100 from an album with a record of 7.
4)Rihanna-Rated R(2009)
If Beyonce's I am... album is the best album release in 2008, Rated R by Rihanna will be the best R&B album in 2009. Her domestic drama in the early of the year, causes the inspirations to this album to a darker and edgier side of her. Without the drama, she still continues this direction as the success of "Disturbia"had reveal her desire to change. She is one of few artist that manage to pull off a new sound everytime a new album comes out and her grew bigger each time. The lead single "Russian Routte" might had not score a no 1, but the album sales are going strong.
5)B.E.P.- The E.N.D.(2009)
Black Eyed Peas are the only act that are not solo female. The Energy Never Dies album had brought the future music to us. BEP had did it again with this partying album. "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" are the 2009's biggest singles which carries from beginning till end of the year. Boom single are unable to miss in many TV series and big blockbuster movie soundtrack (e.g. G.I. Joe). The END showcases a whole new level of futuristic American dance and party music. 4th and 5th single announces as "Imma Be" and "Rock That Body"

6)Whitney Houston - I Look To you (2009)
After a hiatus of 6 years, she is ready get back to the limelights to do what she do best, ballads and uplifting songs. No more wannabes songs to be the hippest(hip-hop) as like previous album "Watchulookinat". From promo single, "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" to lead singles "Million Dollar Bill" and "I Look To You", definitely had satisfied me a lot. This is one of the best comeback album by great(high-profile) singers, without trying to hard and just be comfortable in their own shoes.

7)Little Boots - Hands(2008)
And you think I am an old man just listen to big names? Well, I dare you doesn't even notice her. She was PUSH artist of MTV Asia of 2009. I think this is one of the best album released in 2009. Electro pop, dance, and pop. Favourite singles like Remedy, Earthquake, New In Town, Meddle are not top 10 sucess singles but it did grew on me. Never notice how she did in U.S. side, but seems like another Goldfrapp. Good music not much of commercial success.

8)Taylor Swift -Fearless (2008)
Had any of her song move you this year? Or the Kanye West chaos earn your pity? Or the Taylor-Taylor hook-up caught your attnetion more? The Lead single "Love Story" had made her a global success from a country act. Upon on its re-release, the album achieve a record of 9 singles charting the Billboard Hot 100 in the same week including the official singles, Love Story, You Belong With Me, and Fifteen. This is base on digital downloads alone and feat which no other female artist holds before. She is one of most successful crossover country act of the millenium and also the most singles charted on Billboard Hot 100 for the 2000-2009 era.
9)Agnes - Dance Love Pop(2008)
She another dance act that releases energy from Europe across the globe. "Release Me" had become my dance track of the year which "I need You Now" also achieving the same momentum. Agnes is a Swedish Idol winner, and also the biggest export since 90s's Ace Of Base, Roxette.. This album is a tranformation of her musical route from Leona Lewis style to R&B/Dance. The lead international Lead single "Release Me" is a huge success across the clubbing scene worldwide including U.S. However, the album is not internationally release while their team awaiting another success single fomr the album. "On and On" will be chosen to be the key of her album success. I think they should drop the plan and move to a new album.
10) Utada - This Is The One(2009)
She is really a talent, but without any luck. With all eyes ready for her to be the one Asian sensation to success in crossover to English language medium , she had not gather the right attention. This album is safe and love by US radio stations, but due to her health problem the promo duties are put aside. Dirty Desire is the upbeat track to release as lastest single to promote. Previous single "Come back to me" is a success to me, while I can't get enough of it. It all the elements of a hit single but too bad, it didn't chart at all. Non-singles tracks like The One, FYI (Merry Xmas Mr Lawrence) are rotating non-stop in my mp3.

Angel Advocate

Mimi, a.k.a. Mariah Carey, is releasing another 2 remix album. The first one had reveal as the name of Angel Advocate which accompany by 2 lead singles "Angels Cry ft. Ne-Yo" and "Up Out My Face (Remix) ft Nicky Minaj". Is it a surprise? I don't think so.
A LA.M.B. will knew there is a big part missing from the Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, and it come out true. The missing parts will be reveal in the next 2 album. I think it's a brilliant!!!! A normal Mimi's album (in fact her music career) always struggle to balance 3 sides of her;- Ballads, Collaborations, and Remixes. You got all type of audience who never got enough, and critics and haters trying to pick on her.
From Memoirs, haters criticise on it as bore and dull but to LAMBs it become a surprise. You like a ballad(Angels Cry)? a cover(I Wanna Know What Love Is)? or an uptempo pop number(Obsesses)? also potential a bit of a clubbing/Hip-Hop thingy(Up Out My Face)? Whatever you seems its all in here. To me, I felt that Memoirs is a true unpolish gem. Mariah gave out the raw side of care-free works of her, and then which we all knows it turns out that it is unable to accomodate enough commercial success, there goes plan B. The remixes, that put her on the charts and clubs.
The 2nd part of the Memoirs Angel project goes out with 2 new singles(as mentioned above). With a not much of surprise, Angels Cry (my favourite track) just turn duet and Ne-Yo compliment it and a radio-friendier. Not something I expected, but still above average. It's not a remix, but a re-sung and a tribute to ONE SWEET DAY fans. This makes me wonder if the duet will make an uptempo version? I can feel the beat. I will be thrill if Angels Cry gave it an urban remix treatment.

In this direction, I can see that Mariah will be headlining the music news till Christina Aguilera, Madonna arrives in the later year. A cheer for Team Mariah!!!!!
To be continue when the "Up Out My face" is out.

My Favourite 10 Chinese Album of 2009
This blog had gone hiatus a while... blame me for being too lazy. But I at least will make a Fav 10 yearly.... Here's the list :-
1) Fish Leong 梁靜茹 - Fish Leong & Lovesongs靜茹 & 情歌
She really knows what her fans wants. The total number of karaoke friendly ballads had become more than her previous album and she is at her best yet. The drama effect is a lucky jackpot, which the album enjoy the huge commercial success from it.
Favourite tracks:-別再為他流淚(Don't Cry For Him), 情歌(Lovesong), 沒有如果(There's No If), 用力抱著(Hug On Hard)

2) Shirley Kwan關淑怡 - Shirley's Era
Been waiting for her records for years and finally is out, without any dissappiontment. This wasn't a radio friendly ones, but I love it so much....

3) A-Mei張惠妹-阿密特AMIT
What ever alter-ego she pulls out, it doesn't hurt her talent and this album had gone a differ direction but it still ganer success. As for me, it's hard to digest at first, but soon its catchy and hard to shake off.

4) Eason Chan陳奕迅 - H3M
Songs from this album are the ones most played and sunged in karaoke (at least while I am aware). How could I left him out, the best male singer of the year sure goes to him.

5) Elva蕭亞軒 - 鑽石糖Diamond Candy
The most stylish album sure goes to Elva's Diamond Candy. From "Shining Love" and "Diamond Candy" to "Goodby Bye Bye" and "WOW", these MVs are terrific and the best of the year. Slow numbers like "Countdown", "I'll Cry With You" are not exactly the usual Elva's ballad but yet creates a new signature sound of hers.

6) 林宥嘉Yoga Lin - 感官/世界Sensus Around
Music that tickles your senses, and this 2nd album of Yoga really live up to the title (and also the title of Winner of SUPERSTAR). It takes some in-depths to appreciate it. I could say this album is a big contestant to be nominate in the awards.

7) Jam Hsiao萧敬腾 - 王妃Queen
If Yoga's album is artisticly good, Jam's is rocking commercially better. Jam's album targets right into my cup of tea, a handful of sing along song and some wittiful lyrics and many other side dishes to fill the gaps to make it a wholeful album.

8)LaLa Hsu徐佳莹 - 首张创作专辑Debut Album
Seems like this is the third album from the talents of SUPERSTAR contestants. The winner of 3rd season SUPERSTAR, LALA Hsu is also a talented star. Admire that she writes her own songs and also brought a fresh breath of Mando-pop. "Riding On White Horse" become the instant hit of the year.

9)Joey Yung容祖儿 - A Time For Us
搜神记(Search For Love) is the song that put her back into my favourite list of singers. Joey seems to find her new musical route after a few try outs in previous albums. It seems a while that this album appears to be wholly and complete with music gernes type that makes her popular.

10)Jolin Tsai蔡依林 - 花蝴蝶 Butterfly/Tanya Chua蔡健雅-若你碰到他 If You Seen Him
My list tenth album of list appear to be a double winner. I can't decide which I like better. Jolin's a winner commercially and Tanya's an award-winning strong album. Jolin's album produce more singles i like than Tanya's, but Tanya's singles are way better too. Rating-wise they are equal to me.
